Taliyah (“pioneering in Arabic) is a unique program in which women Arab high school graduates spend a gap year in an intensive volunteering and leadership training program in Bedouin communities in the Negev. The volunteers spend their time in formal and informal educational programs and communal institutions in Beer Sheva and the surrounding Arab villages. These include the National Insurance Institute (Bituach Leumi), community centers, early childhood centers, medical clinics and more.
Currently we have three groups of volunteers: for the region, in the city of Rahat and in the town of Hura. The volunteers participate in an extensive training program at the beginning of the year and one day a week throughout the year. In addition, our volunteers take part in a prep course for the psychometric exam (a college entrance exam) and in a unique program “Building the Future” which is designed to prepare them for academic studies and their integration in the workforce.
This year Taliyah is volunteering in 10 schools throughout the Negev.
